Nadina released two concerto recordings in 2023 of music written for her. CARNIVAL by Augusta Read Thomas and SILVER ANGEL by Constantine Caravassilis.Named Instrumentalist of the Year 2020 by Just Plain Folks, NADINA MACKIE JACKSON is the most widely recorded Canadian bassoonist in history with 13 solo albums, 8 chamber music recordings and dozens of symphonic and historical instrument recordings.Eighteen new works for solo bassoon and orchestra have been written for her by Canadian and American composers including Augusta Read Thomas, Mathieu Lussier, Paul Frehner, Michael Occhipinit, Eric Funk, Constantine Caravassilis, Lucas Oickle and Adam Scime. Nadina believes in performing the works of living composers to expand the voice of the bassoon. Recent solo recordings include winner of Best Classical Album 2020 from Just Plain Folks, Vivaldi Concerti Volume I with Nicholas McGegan and the Junoshort-listed Canadian Concerto Project with the group of twenty-seven chamber orchestra led by Eric Paetkau. A respected teacher, Nadina is the founder and president of The Council of Canadian Bassoonists, a nationally registered educational charity dedicated to the study and appreciation of the bassoon and bassoonists in Canada.Nadina is the author of Solitary Refinement, Chromatics, Chords and Scales, Concepts for the Committed Bassoonist published by Friesen Press 2020 and which enjoyed successive weeks on the publisher’s bestseller list. The audio version of the book will be released in 2023.Nadina plays a one-of-a-kind custom-made new blue bassoon by the renowned Canadian bassoon maker, Benson Bell.

Actor, comic, writer, and musician, simply put, Michael Louis Johnson is an entertainer. In the 90s he was a SwingPunk innovator with Big Rude Jake till he blowed-up on the silver screen in cult hit Bride of Chucky. In the 2000s his collective Streets Are For People! created the Pedestrian Sundays festival in Kensington Market and he was a principal subject of 2010 documentary, A Different Path. Punk legends RANCID were fans of his protest rock band The New Kings. Voted Toronto’s Best Bartender in NOW Magazine, he is creator of popular democratic vinyl night, Dcide on the Bside. He fronts a giant improvised brass band called Rambunctious. He is a founding member of globe-trotting Balkan Klezmer Party Punks, Lemon Bucket Orkestra and his quintet Red Rhythm has held a weekly jazz residency at the Communist’s Daughter since 2003. Michael is spending most of 2026 at the Stratford Festival, where he is creating and performing a score for solo trumpet for Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.

Mike Freedman is a professional guitarist, composer and music instructor based in Toronto. Into the Daybreak, his album of original instrumental jazz tunes, reached #1 on the CFUV jazz radio charts, receiving frequent radio airplay across Canada and the US. Since graduating cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring and Jazz Guitar, Mike has been actively involved in the music scene, where his versatility lends itself to working on a wide variety of musical projects, performances and recordings. His studies at Berklee included private lessons in a wide array of guitar styles, focusing on the solos of many great players, which he continues to incorporate into his playing today. Prior to Berklee, he spent several years studying under renowned classical guitarist Eli Kassner. Mike has recorded two singer/songwriter CDs of his own material, as well as two CDs of instrumental guitar. He has also played on other musicians’ recordings and regularly performs with original bands in the greater Toronto area, the US and Europe. As a song writer, he has co-written and performed with other jazz singers whose work reached #1 on the iTunes jazz charts, including Tia Brazda, who he continues to co-write and tour with. In 2000, Mike received honourable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. His songs and instrumental music have been included in films and on TV. To date, he has written the scores for three feature films and numerous short films. He is an active co-writer and performer, having co-written and recorded songs with such artists as Tia Brazda, Ed Roman, The Willows, Steven Taetz and Barbra Lica.

Multiple JUNO award winner Mike Downes is a Canadian bassist, composer, arranger and educator. Described “as gifted a composer as he is a bassist*,” his melodic approach to bass playing, composing and arranging has kept him at the forefront of the Canadian jazz scene since the 1980s. His extensive discography includes projects as a band-leader, performer, composer and producer. His own Ripple Effect won a 2014 JUNO award for Traditional Jazz Album of the Year and Root Structure was the 2018 JUNO award winner for Jazz Album of the Year: Solo. Root Structure inspired UK Vibe to write “5/5 – This album is as close to perfect as it is possible to get and fully warrants its rating here. Buy it!” Mike has performed with a long list of international jazz artists including Pat Metheny, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman and Donny McCaslin, and Canadians Don Thompson, Kirk MacDonald, Pat LaBarbera, Robi Botos, Molly Johnson and many more. He has performed throughout Europe, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Iceland, the United States and Canada. Mike is the author of internationally recognized The Jazz Bass Line Book and co-author of Jazz and Contemporary Music Theory.

Cellist Mary-Katherine Finch enjoys a diverse performing career with numerous ensembles andin a wide variety of musical genres. She has appeared with the Toronto Symphony, NationalBallet of Canada, Esprit Orchestra, and served as guest principal cellist with HamiltonPhilharmonic, Windsor Symphony, and Niagara Symphony, and is principal cellist ofMississauga Symphony. Mary-Katherine regularly performs chamber music on various concert series in Ontario.Summer festivals include Luminato, Elora, Toronto Summer Music, Festival of the Sound, andOttawa Chamber Festival.
