Born and raised in Beijing, China, Jason Fan is currently pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in a double major in Music and Philosophy at the University of Toronto. He has been a member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Domaine Forget Festival Academy Chamber Orchestra.
Jason’s musical journey began at the age of four with the piano and transitioned to the oboe at eight. He studied oboe with Mr. Jingchun Jin
in Beijing, with Mr. Aleh Remezau in Toronto. He has performed in many renowned festivals and venues across China, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Canada, including concerto performances with orchestras at the Beijing Concert Hall and Vienna City Hall, as well as orchestral performances in the Forbidden City Concert Hall, the National Centre of Performing Arts, Wiener Musikverein and Roy Thomson Hall. He also performed in masterclasses with Elaine Douvas, Christian Wetzel, Katherine Needleman, Nathan Hughes, Vincent Boilard and Hélène Devilleneuve. In November of 2024, he performed side-by-side with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, playing the solo English Horn parts in Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor. Jason was the first prize winner of the Hong Kong International Music Festival and the China Youth Music Competition in both solo and chamber music, as well as first place of 2025 Oakville Chamber Orchestra concerto competition and successfully performed L.A. Lebrun’s oboe concerto No.1 with the orchestra. In May 2026, he successfully advanced to the semi-final round in the international principal oboe audition of the Quebec Symphony Orchestra (OSQ).
After graduating from the Affiliated High School of Peking University in 2022, Jason studied philosophy at Sun Yat-Sen University before moving to Toronto in 2023. Outside of music, Jason never stops reading and thinking. He is deeply engaged in exploring the intersection of music and philosophy, believing in the profound influence of cultural enrichment on the development of a unique musician.
